I know most of us are beginning to get the hang of the whole browsing thing. however, for clarification purposes, I’ll show you my custom way to surf the internet for free using the networks that have worked for me.
Lets start off with MTN:
PHONE:
1. Get operamini mod 4.0 or higher(I’ll post a download link later).
2. Goto options—tools—settings—network, and input the proxy and port(10.199.212.2:8080 or 10.199.212.8:8080) in the field given.
3. Enter the following in the server url: loaded.mtnonline.com@80.232.117.10:80
4. That’s it! You can now surf the net freely.
5. To download, add the following before the download url eg: loaded.mtnonline.com@www.yourdownloadlink.com
ZAIN:
The Zeds are quite easier to get along with, as long as you can find alternative Ip addresses to surf with.
PHONE:
1. Request MMS and/or WAP settings(send wap or mms to 232, or dmc.ng.zain.com)
2. Once activated, first of all scan the net for faster ips(www.tools.rosinstrument.com)
3. You could use any ip you find, provided its working. Note that some ips work faster than others, depending on the bandwidth available and the traffic it receives.
4. Simply replace the default proxy(172.18.254.5:8080) with the new one, and you’re good to go.
5. Some ips, especially the codeen network blocks access to certain sites. You may need to manually search with google for fast and unrestricted servers all over the globe. Try from asia and the middle east.
6. Anyway, you may use these: 72.55.191.6:3128,81.23.100.20:3128,63.98.171.181:8080,156.17.10.51:3128
7. Port 443 seems to work very well. Search for such ports.
PC:
1. Install your phone pc suite(for this exercise I’ll use nokia. Procedure is quite similar on all phones).
2. Once successfully installed, open the software and click on “connect to internet”.
3. If you’re using vista home premium and above, you may have to right-click and on your software icon and click ”run as administrator” to enable write-access.
4. Click settings, and enter your mms apn, username and password(mms.ng.zain.com,mms,mms)
5. Click connect
6. If connection is successful, open internet explorer.
7. Go to tools—Internet Options—connections.
8. Click on your phone modem(with default attached to it). If you have several modems and don’t know which is yours, you’d have to go to control panel—network and sharing centre(vista) and click “manage network connections”. Take note of the connected modem and compare it with line 7 above.
9. Now we continue. click on settings or double-click connection name and check the “use a proxy for this connection” check-box
10. Enter any of the ips above or the ones you found and click ok
11. That should do it. For the first time, the server may take a while locating the ip(you’ll understand if you know a bit of networking),so be patient. Refresh if it fails to connect.
12. If it still persists, the server may be down or even blocked. Try getting another. I don’t recommend sharing your ip with everyone, since the huge influx of traffic will drastically reduce the bandwidth, lead to congestion and may force the owners to shut it down. You can always tell them where to find good ips though.
